General Purpose

One purpose of Bishop Quinn High School is to prepare its students for entrance into a regular four-year college or university. Generally, students meeting the University of California / California State University entrance requirements will meet requirements of private and out-of-state schools. (Students should refer to individual catalogs of colleges for specifics.) The school authorities of the colleges consider school grades of "A" or "B" as college recommending grades. To be merely enrolled in a course is not enough to satisfy any college requirement; the quality of a student's work must be evaluated.

Students entering BQHS must be committed to a mature and responsible attitude towards study. A successful student should spend approximately twenty to thirty minutes per day in preparation for each class. This time could be in the areas of personal review, written assignments, reading ahead, etc.

You should keep in mind the following:

  1. All students must take seven (7) classes or six (6) classes and a Study Hall or an independent study.
  2. All schedules must have parental approval. Approval of your present teacher is required to advance in a course level, e.g., A.P. English or advanced mathematics.
  3. Though some classes may not be necessary to fulfill BQHS graduation requirements, academic electives such as advanced foreign language, mathematics, and science courses are strongly recommended.
