Honors And Advance Placement Courses
Opportunities to enroll in honors courses are available for qualified students. Taking honors courses provides several advantages. Students who take honor courses in their third and fourth years will be given bonus grade points by the colleges when they compute grade point averages. For example, if you receive a "B" in an honors level course, the college will compute your GPA by giving you four points instead of the three for the "B." All students taking honors courses will be given bonus points when calculating GPA's for honor roll purposes by Bishop Quinn High School. The exception to this are grades that are below "C."
Honor courses should help the student prepare to take Advanced Placement Exams. Students who enroll in honor courses in the junior or senior year should commit themselves to taking at least one Advanced Placement Exam. This exam, if passed, will earn the student the equivalent of 6-8 semester hours or 10-12 quarter hours of credit in college. It will exempt the student from taking certain required entry level college courses.
