General Guidelines

Minimum Schedule

Each student must carry a minimum of six (6) subjects per semester for which credit toward graduation is given.

Courses Repeated:

(a) Courses failed may not be repeated during the regular sessions at Bishop Quinn High School. A required course that is failed (or its equivalent) must be passed in summer school before the student returns in August.

(b) A student may repeat courses not required for graduation only in place of an independent study and with the approval of the Vice-Principal and Department Chair. The repeated course(s) will be recorded on the transcript but will not count toward the 270 units necessary for graduation.

Courses taken during summer school:

(a) Courses used to advance in the math or science programs must have prior written approval of the Department Chair and the Vice-Principal.

(b) Courses which are not also taught at Bishop Quinn High School during the school year will not be recognized as fulfilling BQHS graduation requirements unless prior written approval of the Department Chair and the Vice- Principal is obtained.

Selection of Elective Courses:

As you plan for post high school, it is important to have a well-rounded course of studies. The benefits derived from electives are not only varied and numerous, but they add depth and richness to your program and enable you to acquire skills which will provide pleasure and satisfaction. You are encouraged to take as full and challenging a program as you are able. The broader the program, the more college and career possibilities it will open for you.

Study Hall

Study Hall is a time given to the serious study of class work by the student. It is to be used to study for tests, quizzes, to do homework or any other assigned work. Credit will only be given to students who use the time productively and who follow the directions of the study hall monitor. It is intended to be a quiet time for studying and reading. Any student who does not follow the study hall guidelines will not receive credit. Non-credit for study hall will be treated as any classroom failure. The student will be placed on academic probation. There will, in addition, be no appeal of the conditions of probation, including ineligibility, due to a "no-credit" mark in study hall. A maximum of thirty (30) Study Hall units may be applied toward the 270 units required for graduation.
